As you may have read in my previous post just hours ago, food and fashion icon B. Smith was reported as a missing person since last night. The 64 year-old has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s .  Smith had been last seen in Southampton on Tuesday night when she arrived on a jitney from New York but failed to show up at her Sag Harbor home. This afternoon, she was spotted at La Parisienne Coffee House on 7th Avenue near 57th st. Fortunately, the proprietor recognized her and called the Sag Harbor police. As with Alzheimer’s, a lot of details are still vague here. How did she get back to NY? Where did she stay all night? As the story unfolds lets just pray “Alls well that ends well!”. So many cases of wandering end up tragically.

Pioneering former model and restaurateur B. Smith was found at a Manhattan cafe Wednesday — a day after she was reported missing.

Smith, who is 65 and suffers from Alzheimer’s disease, was located at the La Parisienne Coffee House on 7th Ave. near 57th St. after the proprietor recognized the missing woman and called the Sag Harbor cops, police said.

It was not immediately clear where Smith, one of the first African-American models to grace the cover of Mademoiselle, had spent the night — or what kind of shape she was in after her ordeal.

Before Smith was found, her worried husband Dan Gasby told a Daily News reporter that she had last been seen around 8 p.m. Tuesday in Southampton.

“She left the city on the Ambassador Jitney at 4:30 yesterday,” said Gasby, who has been married to Smith for 22 years.

When Smith didn’t arrive in Sag Harbor, Gasby said he and his daughter tracked down the driver, who told them the confused passenger had gotten off in Southampton.

That’s when, Gasby said, he called the cops.

Last year, Smith spoke candidly about her struggle in an interview with CBS News.

“You do try to hide it from everybody,” said Smith, whose first name is Barbara.

Smith opened her first B. Smith restaurant in the city back in 1986 and two more in the years that followed.
