Last week, I was pleasantly surprised when the Alzheimer’s Association’s Southwestern Connecticut Chapter was seeking my permission to show Mom’s work in A Greenwich Art Council’s show, featuring a retrospective of artist Don Axelroad’s work. Of course, I said I would be honored and I’m sure Mom feels the same way. Don’s work is interesting and unique in that he mixes painting with wood cut prints and Greek Mythology with the problems of our modern world. Another section of the exhibit exposes the ill’s of our society like gun violence and our banking system. (These woodcut prints below were reflect when his father was in an institution and confined to a wheelchair.)
We always find Don’s work fascinating and plan to return on November 16th. From 3-5pm there will be a special lecture: SHINING A LIGHT ON DEMENTIA
Gerantologist Dr. Stephen G. Jones, Director of Outpatient Medicine and the Center for Healthy Aging at Greenwich Hospital will lead a discussion on dimension: how it affects the brain, stages of the disease, diagnosis and hope for the future.
